The 2019 LOCA committee held its first meeting last Monday. For those of you who were unable to attend the AGM the new committee is as follows:
Chairman – Mike Vincent
Secretary – Liz Harding
Treasurer – Kim Lorigan/Matt Harvey
Committee Members – Gregg Brown, Mitch Collins, Colin Jackson, Debbie Surtees, Paul Martelli, Denis Falconer and Peter Muys
We have a good mix of new people and longer term committee members. This means that we can get input from a new perspective whilst also retaining some institutional knowledge. We do not think we will be doing things greatly different from last year and over the next month will be reviewing our strategic plan and deciding on committee working groups.
We would like to see some input from younger members of the community and will be inviting people under 20 to come to a committee meeting to express their views on what they wish to see happen here. Out of this we hopefully will identify a young person who we can co-opt onto the committee.
During our discussions it was felt that there are things we have good control over e.g. management of the Boyes Beach and DOC camps; the Boyes Beach to DOC camp track; working to make Okareka predator free by encouraging back yard trapping and the development of new tracks. This left matters we cannot control but hopefully we can influence such as lake levels, water quality, improvements to the boat ramp, toilet blocks and road speed limits to name a few.
Do please let the committee know if you have any concerns or matters we may be able to address
Regards,
Mike Vincent

For those of you who may not have received a questionnaire please find attached. Obviously there is no obligation to complete this but we are hoping to update and improve our database of residents for several communication objectives including:
- Distribution of information on community issues
- Alerting the community for neighbourhood support
- Gathering information to assist in the event of a civil emergency
- Publication of a new community phonebook
The information will be kept solely for the above purposes by the LOCA secretary and the local neighbourhood support administrator. Information will be shared with Civil Defence and/or the Lake Okareka Fire Brigade on the occasion of a civil emergency. We trust you will assist us with this project.
Regards,
Liz Harding
Secretary
