Tarawera Trail Planting Saturday 4th October

30/9/2014

Hi everyone

This is an email to let you all know about a planting working bee at the Tarawera Trail, Tarawera Road on this Saturday 4th October 2014 from 9 am.
There are plants to go in for Dept of Conservation and Bay of Plenty Regional Council.

Please bring working clothes, strong footwear, wet weather gear - if it looks like rain, otherwise sun hat and sun block, gardening gloves and a planting spade - if you have one. It would also pay to bring some water and a snack. I believe that there will be a sausage sizzle available.

It would be really great to have a good turn out of helpers for this planting.
Could you please let me know if you intend going, so I can pass an estimate of numbers onto DOC and BoPRC.

Many thanks

Kind regards

Next Landcare Okareka Working Bee

Hello Landcare Okareka volunteers and supporters

First of all thank you to everyone who came and helped with the planting at Lake Tikitapu Scenic Reserve and infill planting at the pump station area at Lake Okareka.
A really good working bee with planting of approx 150 trees, and the new trees at Lake Tikitapu SR all have little protection shelters to hopefully help keep them safe from rabbits, wallabies and possums!

This is just a heads up notice that there will be NO Working Bee on the 4th Saturday of October 2014 (i.e. Saturday 25th October, Labour Weekend).

We hope to have a Working Bee on Saturday 1st November 2014 - but details for that are yet to be finalised.
I will email again with those details when they are confirmed.

Kind regards

Lake Okareka Working Bee Saturday 27th September

Dear Landcare Okareka Volunteers

Thank you to everyone who came and helped with last month's Working Bee, in Lake Tikitapu Scenic Reserve around the Mistletoe Walk and the area opposite Benn Road. The plantings in both areas are going to provide more biodiversity to the reserve in these areas, as many of the plants that were put in provide host plants for mistletoe and food - flowers and fruit - for the native birds. The planting was a joint effort from volunteers from Forest & Bird Rotorua, Rotorua Botanical Society and Landcare Okareka

THIS MONTH'S WORKING BEE:
WHEN: Saturday 27th September from 9 am to 12 noon
WHAT: Planting - again in Lake Tikitapu Scenic Reserve, but this time on the edge of the DOC grass reserve up at Lake Tikitapu, Tarawera Road.
The planting will be in the area near where the Nature Walk starts. The plants will also be given little netting cages to try to stop the rabbits, possums and wallabies browsing on them. We will be recycling the plastic netting cages from a previous planting that has now established quite well, in the same area.
WHAT TO BRING: Working clothes, strong footwear, rain gear (just in case!) and gardening gloves. If you have a spade for planting that would be good.

We will provide morning tea and some cold water to drink and wash hands for you all. This planting will be another joint effort for volunteers from Landcare Okareka and Rotorua branch of Forest & Bird. Looking forward to seeing many of you on Saturday.

Advance Notice of another Planting Day - Saturday 4th October from 9 am at the Tarawera Trail - I will send more information as it becomes available. This is a planting organised by both Dept of Conservation and Bay of Plenty Regional Council. It would be great to have a good turn out of Landcare Okareka volunteers to help at this planting.

Kind regards

Hi Landcare Okareka volunteers

We have organised a litter pick up around Lake Okareka for this coming Saturday 13th September 2014, to tie in with Keep NZ Beautiful Clean Up NZ week.

If you are able to help please come to the Lake Okareka Community Hall by 9 am and you will be allocated a street or road to work on and a Hi Viz jacket to wear.
There will also be a brief Health and Safety talk before starting work.

Make sure you have appropriate clothing and footwear. If you have gardening gloves they would be useful. Bring a drink and a snack as well.
We will provide morning tea when you are finished.

Kind regards
