Over the winter progress has continued on the Lake Okareka Walking Track from Boyes beach to the DOC camp. Owen Builders have completed building the boardwalks and platforms. They have more mesh to add to the tops of these, but that will not happen until the cartage of track metal has been completed.
LOCA has recently purchased a small compact tractor (thanks to Piako Tractors, Te Ngae for their good deal) and a small manual tipping trailer (custom built by Prescott Trailers from Te Puke, also to a great price) to cart the gravel, timber and tools for the walking track - so much easier on volunteers' backs than using wheelbarrows. Rotorua Quarries on Okareka Loop Road have given us an extremely good deal for GAP 20 at no charge - and Terry Moore Ltd is providing the cartage at a very low cost - thank you to both of these local firms for their support.
WORKING BEE - THIS SATURDAY 10th SEPTEMBER 2016 from 9 am to 12 noon
Please park in the public car park at Boyes beach reserve, Millar Road and walk across the Boyes beach grassed reserve to the recreation building. Te Waiariki Purea Trust road way and car park area is likely to be very busy on Saturday morning with Te Au Rere Waka Ama people in there, for training.
WHAT TO BRING: Suitable clothing, sun hat and sunscreen, if sunny. Rain wear, if wet. Strong footwear. Bring a drink and a snack. Tools to bring if you have them: rakes, shovels and wheel barrows - even though we have the tractor we will need some wheel barrows to help in the area where we will be working. Good idea to have your tools marked in some way (name or coloured tape, etc), as they can get mixed up with others.
Please read the attached "Hazard Safety Register" before attending this Working Bee. You will be given a short Health & Safety briefing before this Working Bee starts and asked to sign the Health & Safety register for this Working Bee. If as a track building volunteer for LOCA you can see anything missing from this Hazard Safety Register, please let me know.
