Dear Landcare Okareka Volunteers and Supporters
First of all a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who came to help with the last Landcare Okareka Working Bee shifting and spreading gravel on the Lake Okareka Walkway, above Silver beach. This was very hard work, but we got all of the gravel we wanted to move, shifted and spread onto the walkway - and there is some gravel left for more work if and when required in the future.
Thank you to everyone who came to help. Thanks also to Dennis Falconer for the use of the barge to take workers and equipment to the working bee area - I hope you all saw the recent Lake Okareka Newsletter in which Landcare Okareka volunteers featured.
THIS MONTH'S WORKING BEE: SATURDAY 28th JUNE 2014
WHERE: Taumaihi reserve, which belongs to Dept of Conservation, at the end of Acacia Road - please be careful about where you park at the Acacia Road end - not across people's private entranceways. You can get to the planting area by using the gravel footpath which goes off from the right of the grassed area at the Acacia Road cul-de-sac and follows the lake edge, across the lawn area in front of Lebua's boat shed, to the reserve.
WHAT TIME: from 9 am to 12 noon (if needed)
DOING WHAT: Planting
WHAT TO BRING: Suitable clothing (warm, wet weather gear - if it looks like rain), gardening gloves, strong footwear - gumboots. Planting spade, rake and shovel - there will be some mulch to put around new plants. A wheel barrow or two might be useful as well.
We will provide cold water for drinking and hand washing and also everything for morning tea (or coffee!)
