Planning Meeting about Lake Okareka Walking Track

12/8/2014

I am very pleased to report that Lake Okareka Community Assn has at last completed all of the planning requirements of the Department of Conservation, Bay of Plenty Regional Council, and Rotorua District Council that were required for the proposed extension to the Lake Okareka Walking Track. This has taken just on 5 years to complete.

We are now in a position to hold a planning meeting for everyone who is interested in progressing this project further. I have sent this email out to all of the people that I am aware of who have expressed an interest in this project over the past 5 years or so. This includes DOC staff, RDC staff, and BOPRC staff. Also Te Arawa Lakes Trust and local iwi from Tuhourangi, Te Waiariki Purea Trust and Te Aurere Waka Ama Club and members of Rotorua walking groups -  to keep you all informed about what is happening.  If you know of any others that should be informed about this meeting, please send this invitation on to them.

The broad plan at this stage is to undertake Stage 1 from Boyes beach to the DOC camp over the coming months. To undertake this work will of course require applications for funding for the materials required. Stage 1 is the most expensive section of the track as it requires considerable length of bridges and boardwalks. We have the necessary engineering drawings for bridges and boardwalks. These were required for the DOC AEE (Assessment of Environmental Effects). So this planning meeting is to discuss the process of how we now go about undertaking this project.

We would be really pleased to have as many people attend this meeting at the start of this project to find out where people are able to help and what the plan is for the project.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday 26th August from 7.30 pm at the Lake Okareka Community Hall, Lake Okareka Loop Road.

Could you please RSVP to the sender's email or phone number below so we have an idea about numbers to expect at this meeting.
Also if you could indicate if you are interested in the project and would like to stay in touch.

Looking forward to many of you attending this meeting.
Kind regards

Sandra Goodwin
